The Smart BMS 12/2 is a comprehensive battery management system for Victron's lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) smart batteries. Specifically designed for 12V systems with 12V alternators, including those used in vehicles and boats.
It combines a current limiter, battery connector and battery protector in a robust and compact solution, and allows the connection of any size 12V alternator (and starter battery), loads and chargers to Smart lithium batteries.
The Smart BMS 12/2 monitors and protects each battery cell within the battery (or battery bank) individually, and disconnects the alternator, charging sources or DC loads in the event of low battery cell voltage, high battery cell voltage or overheating.
The purpose-designed alternator connection provides current limitation and unidirectional operation for the from the alternator to the battery, meaning any size alternator (and starter battery) can be safely connected to the Smart Lithium battery (or battery bank), and the starter battery is protected against over-discharge.
The BMS is equipped with Bluetooth for monitoring and configuration, a remote on/off connector, for switching off the BMS (and the system) remotely, and a pre-alarm contact to provide a warning signal before the BMS disconnects the batteries from the system.
