With the needs of boat owners in mind, this adaptive, 5-stage charger has been designed to deliver 3A or 5A charging current to the three battery groups separately. Alternatively, with the Phoenix 1+1 type, the starter battery receives 3A current, while the charger directs the remaining power to the “internal” battery group. The 24 Vs types are available for 16A/25A charging current. By activating the Bluetooth service, the charger's operation can be monitored and alarms can even be set directly from the phone. Using Bluetooth Smart
With Bluetooth enabled, any smartphone, tablet or other device can monitor and change settings, as well as update the charger when new software features become available.


Phoenix Smart (1+1): two outputs for charging 2 battery groups
The second output, limited to approximately 3 A and with a slightly lower output voltage, is used to recharge the starter battery.


Phoenix Smart (3): three full-current outputs for charging 3 battery groups
Each output provides output current at full rated power. However, the 3 outputs together can never exceed the rated current of the charger.


Automatic voltage compensation
The charger compensates for the voltage drop on the DC cable, and slightly increases the output voltage when the DC current increases. The relevant details can be found in the manual.


Adaptive 5-stage charging algorithm: high current - absorption - regeneration - trickle charge - charge storage
The Phoenix Smart charger features the well-known "adaptive" battery management, which can be preset to suit different types of batteries. The “adaptive” function automatically optimizes the charging process depending on how the battery is used.


The right amount of charge: variable absorption time
When consumption is low (for example, in yachts connected to shore power), the absorption time is short to prevent the battery from being overcharged. After high levels of consumption, the absorption time is automatically extended to ensure that the battery is fully charged.


Preventing damage due to excessive gassing: BatterySafe mode
If you select a high absorption voltage for a high charging current to quickly charge the battery, the charger prevents damage due to excessive gassing by automatically limiting the amount of voltage increase when the gassing voltage limit is reached.


Less maintenance and aging of the battery when not in use: charge storage mode
The charge storage mode is activated after the battery has not been used for 24 hours. In charge storage mode, the trickle charge voltage is reduced to 2.2 V/cell (13.2 V for a 12 V battery) to minimize gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week, the voltage is raised to the absorption level to “equalize” the battery. This feature prevents electrolyte stratification and sulfation, which are the main causes of premature battery failure.


Also for charging lithium-ion (LiFePO₄) batteries
The charger can be turned on and off by connecting a relay or an open collector optocoupler output that connects the lithium-ion battery management system (BMS) to the remote on/off connector. Voltage and current control can also be implemented via Bluetooth.


Fully programmable charging algorithm
The charging algorithm can be programmed via Bluetooth or the VE.Direct interface. Three pre-programmed algorithms can be selected using the mode button.


Remote on/off
The remote on/off function consists of two terminals: the remote H (high current) and remote L (low current) switches. A connection can be made between the H and L options using a remote on/off button or relay contact. Optionally, the H terminal can be set to high current and the L terminal to low current. For wired data transmission to the color control panel, computer or other device.
